San Luis Obispo has never been a Mecca for skateboarding. That doesn't mean that there haven't been many hard core riders on the Central Coast over the years. Currently there are 4 concrete parks,1 indoor wood structure park and the sad facilities in the city of SLO. The park in Los Osos is considered by many skaters as one of the top ten Californian skate parks. The park was built by SLO County and was designated to be placed in an unincorporated region of the county. The Grover Beach Skate Park concrete and is fun but has too much slack space and no little flow pattern. The Templeton Skate Park has a great mini bowl and a nice large bowl that is compromised by an intrusuve roll-in. Paso Robles has a strange park that has no flow and poorly placed technical objects. Theory has it that the budget shrunk, so the just shrunk the park. Atascadero has Mobley's, an indoor wood park with a night skating option.

And SLO has a composting slush puppy park that is a joke.

This isn't to say that skate parks are the only options for skateboarding. There is the Krpto's ditch, the elusive J-Bowl, ToYlaNd, The Flytrap, San Miguel's Army Pool, and more.

There are also Toyland Outlaw Races throughout the county.
