Restaurant/Bar

The Shack Sports Bar

What to say about the shack, except every college town needs a place like this. Plenty of oddities plastered to the wall, free! peanuts, wide screen TV, too many beer campaign posters, and truly wonderful burgers. Everything is good.

Monday: Extended Happy Hour 3 pm-8 pm / Tuesday: Natty pitchers 2$ 6 pm- 8pm / Wednesday: $1 draft pints 4 pm- 8 pm / Thursday: Tacos 2$ Coronas 2$ / Friday: 2 for 1 pitchers 7 pm- 9pm.

The Clubhouse
Located on Foothill Blvd. near O'Conner road, the "Old This Old House" has been beautified to create a modern country experience. Waiting for review......
Mother's Tavern aka mo' tav
Marti's Bar and Grill r.i.p.

Anyone who had ever eaten at Seven Hands on Hiquera will weep while inside Marti's,evryone else will be delighted to see a clean bar with an easy circulation pattern for optimum butterflying. It seems to gather an “early-twenties” group and is either empty, or packed. There has been movie showings here, which is a good idea if you want a large group on a off-night to view “the winning game”.

Happy Hours: 5-7 nightly there are $2 domestic beers and $3 imports and micros : $3 well drinks and $4 call drinks

Black Sheep

A genuinely good addition to town, the only bummer is not getting the front booth/window spot. However, there is a nice rear patio and clean restrooms. The food could be considered “Bar Food”, minus the heavy greasing. There are T.V.s, but not too many, and a nice bar. Enjoy this place when it is empty, because it is a bit cramped and irritating when crowded. P.S. Ditch the alcohol lady with the jello shots! and scrub that grimey slate filled bathroom and put someone on puke patrol.

Downtown Brew

Still considered SLO Brew, Downtown Brewery has kept the same great brewmaster and has the only real music venue in town. The corporate background of the new management has kept the food and service very consistent. It appears that there will no longer be dimwitted bouncers surfing bodies down the stairwell or employees taking a smoke break two feet outside in the middle of the line to get in.

Blue

Located in the historic Andrews building on the corner of Montery and Osos, Blue has the high society market cornered. Strategic pricing keeps the proffesional drinkers at bay and helps gold-digging babes zero in on the fat wallets. There is a restaurant named Kobel here with good appetizers and comfortable seating.

Happy Hour:

Bar

McCarthy's Pub 544-0268

In the location of the former Old Country Deli, McCarthy's has shown only a slight increase in goon factor since the move from its infamous 1019 Court St. location. The bar was moved and integrated into the new motif. Foam clovers are still gracing the walls, but they cut way back on the model horses. Be happy the etched mirror ladies are still there to accompany you. Now with plenty of room at the bar, booths, stools, and outdoor benches, you can actually pull off a double date by yourself.

But here's the deal,

50 cents off beer and well drinks 5-7 p.m. Mon-Fri

Frog and Peach 595-3764

Mon-Fri 4-6 Bargain 1$ off all drafts.

Bull's Tavern 543-2217

Bull's is still that warm, engrossing place. Located especially close to the Mission, it has provided solice for many a bar-mat-shot lover. Top notch bathroom facilties and interior decor.

Beers $1.50 all day until 10:00 p.m. when the dive apparently becomes up-scale, and high rollers pitch full pop for Natty or the likes.

The Library 542-0199

Formerly a cutting edge internet cafe, this boozing alcove snuck through the City Council crack years ago and is now back to the stone ages, except that they measure with shot glasses. This is the only place that is impossible to heckle, it has no character at all.

Happy Hour TBA

Gaslight Lounge 543-4262

Attached like a cyst to the side of Manuel's liquor, this standing room only lounge has a pool table and room for you to set up a D.J. and have a semi-private event. Is this a gay bar? It isn't a non-gay bar, but you would be disappointed if you thought that it was still in its hey-day.

All week super bargain 25 Cents off draft and well drinks.

Z-Club 544-2582

On High Street near Smart-N-Final, the Z-Club has a cigar room and pool tables. Standing the test of time, you can sit behind triple dark tinting and watch the Ice freeze accross the street.
